My photos show up on a shared family device

If a family iPad or Mac is signed in to your Apple Account, or you use an iCloud Shared Photo Library, private photos can appear on screens you don't control.

Short answerEvery device signed in to your Apple Account with iCloud Photos on shows your whole library, including Hidden (behind that device's lock). Shared Photo Library shares whatever goes into it. Sign shared devices out of your account, check Shared Library settings, and keep private photos in a vault.

Why it happens

  • Same Apple Account on several devices: iCloud Photos mirrors everything.
  • iCloud Shared Photo Library: camera suggestions can add photos automatically.
  • Family Mac using your account in Photos.

Fix it

  1. Check Settings → [your name] → devices and sign out anything you don't use alone.
  2. In Settings → Apps → Photos → Shared Library, review automatic sharing.
  3. Give family members their own Apple Accounts and use Family Sharing.
  4. Move private photos into a vault. VaultBolt's encrypted sync only reaches devices you approve with a safety code.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Hidden album show on my Mac?

Yes, if the Mac uses your iCloud Photos. It's locked with the Mac's Touch ID or password.
