Quick answerObscura is a new open-source vault with AES-256-GCM, no accounts, no cloud and no analytics. It keeps ten indistinguishable vault slots and lets you export the whole vault as one encrypted file. Choose Obscura if: You want zero network activity and open-source code, and you are happy to manage backup files yourself. Choose VaultBolt if: You want automatic encrypted backup, a recovery phrase and a guided clean-up.

Takes about ten minutes for a typical library. Keep your old app until everything opens in VaultBolt.

  2. Install VaultBolt, set your unlock and write down your recovery phrase.
  3. Import from Photos or Files, or let the private photo scan find them.
  4. Run the zero-copies clean-up to delete the exported originals and empty Recently Deleted.
  5. Once everything opens in VaultBolt, remove Obscura from your phone.
