VaultBolt vs SPV

VaultBolt vs SPV

An honest look at where SPV shines and where VaultBolt is different, using SPV's own App Store listing.

vs
Quick answerSPV keeps photos, videos, passwords and contacts behind a PIN and stores everything on the device only. Its listing warns that deleting the app deletes your data, because there is no server backup. Choose SPV if: You want a simple PIN vault that also stores passwords and contacts. Choose VaultBolt if: You want documented encryption, an encrypted backup you control and protection under pressure.

Where SPV is strong

  • Simple PIN-protected vault with a password and contact store
  • Keeps data on the device rather than on the developer's servers

Where VaultBolt is different

  • VaultBolt describes its encryption in detail: AES-256-GCM for every file and the index
  • VaultBolt backs up to your own iCloud as ciphertext, so deleting the app or losing the phone does not lose your vault
  • VaultBolt adds decoy and duress vaults, a private-photo scan and a lifetime option

Switching

Switching from SPV to VaultBolt

Takes about ten minutes for a typical library. Keep your old app until everything opens in VaultBolt.

  1. In SPV, export the items you want to keep to Photos or Files.
  2. Install VaultBolt, set your unlock and write down your recovery phrase.
  3. Import from Photos or Files, or let the private photo scan find them.
  4. Run the zero-copies clean-up to delete the exported originals and empty Recently Deleted.
  5. Once everything opens in VaultBolt, remove SPV from your phone.

FAQ

Does SPV back up my photos?

SPV's listing says it does not keep photos on any server and that deleting the app deletes your data. Export your files before removing it.
