Location and metadata scrub
Share the photo, not where you live.
Every iPhone photo can carry its GPS location, the device model and more. Inside the vault that information stays encrypted. When a file leaves, VaultBolt removes it by default.
How it works
Location and metadata scrub, step by step.
Inside, kept encrypted
Location is kept on import (encrypted) unless you turn on 'Strip on import'.
On the way out, removed
Share, export, export all and drag out strip GPS and device fields by default.
Your choice per share
A toggle lets you include location when you really want to.
Lossless when possible
Images are rewritten without metadata where possible, or re-encoded at high quality with a note.
Video and PDFs too
Video location atoms and PDF author fields are cleared.
Honest limits
- Visible details in the photo itself, like a street sign, are not removed.
FAQ
Location and metadata scrub: common questions
Do iPhone photos contain my location?
If Location Services is on for the Camera, photos store GPS coordinates in their metadata. VaultBolt removes them when a file leaves the vault.
